It’s a very frightening time for all of you and your husband will be feeling very helpless to help his mother.
The best thing you can do to console him is be with him, allow him to cry, scream, talk or whatever he needs to do to cope. You can’t give him false hope if that isn’t appropriate though, so the best people to ask for accurate information on what to expect will be the medical and nursing staff at the hospital.
Every person is different, and each cardiac condition (and there are many), has different outcomes. Alot will depend on the damage to the heart muscle, and subsiquent chance of recovery of any damage. Only the doctors looking after your mother-in-law can answer those questions.
Good luck to you all, he sounds as though he is lucky to have you.

Just be there for him. No words you can say will change what happened. Insure him that you’ll deal with what ever comes your way together.
I can’t tell you exactly what you can expect it’s depending on the severity of the heart-attack. Though her diet and exercise and living habits will change and she will need to monitor her b/p everyday. Consult your doctor about putting your in-law on home health. A nurse will come to her home or where ever she lives and monitor her b/p. They can’t be there everyday but they will care for her and report anything abnormal to her doctor.

Buy plane tickets to go see her. That’s all.
